Bola Tinubu writes review of the book about Buhari

Always in the public eye, doing things in his different, disciplined and Spartan way. From this compelling narrative, neatly demarcated into three parts and 24 chapters, the reader is able to glean the quintessential Buhari.Buhari’s credential as a transformative leaderThe historical bent of this rendering, no doubt, makes for an educative and informative reading. The book is a timely narrative.Buhari’s credential as a transformative leader, who has evolved into a committed democrat, is secured in this narrative. No one is more qualified to evaluate President Buhari, from the past to the present, other than General Danjuma. As a senior officer to Buhari, they both enjoy a professional and personal friendship, unparalleled in our history. It would be impossible to give each person the accolades they deserve in a concise work such as this one. However, it is an account that we must begin to chronicle fully, and with care, for it is the story of when reform came to the land. Here, I must say that this book makes a good initial contribution toward this objective.Indeed, the APC is a party born of the quest for democratic good governance. In essence, the party is the embodiment of a democratic promise made between its members as well as a democratic vow made to the public. The APC genesis is trulya historic and an engaging one.I, therefore, crave your indulgence here to give a bit more insight.3 challenges in forming APCIn forming the ‘new’ party, we had 3 challenges. The first was learning the right lessons from the aborted attempt at political cooperation in 2011. Fortunately, both the ACN and CPC regretted our inability to conclude a pact in 2011.We agreed that there would be no recrimination over what did not happen before. We agreed there would be an intensified effort to forge the united effort that eluded us in 2011.In 2011, both parties wanted cooperation, but became stuck whether that should take the form of an alliance or outright merger. This difference gave rise to another one, regarding how the Vice Presidential candidate, who would run with the Presidential Candidate, Muhammadu Buhari, would be selected.Despite numerous good-faiths demonstrated in attempts to resolve these issues, time ran out on finding a solution. Inretrospect, we all were perhaps a bit too inflexible and did not realize the extent to which cooperation and flexibility were needed to establish the reform we all wanted.The result: each party went its own way in 2011. However, the talks of 2011 would foreshadow the discussions, beginning in 2013, which led to the successful merger forming the APC.Talks mainly between the CPC, led by Buhari, and the ACN, led by myself, later joined by the ANPP and the progressive wing of APGA, would go more smoothly andwould reach the desired finish-line this time. There would be a merger and there would be a presidential candidate agreeableto all. A winning combination had been joined.It would give the PDP, which had boasted of60 continuous years in power, more than it could handle.How Osinbajo beccame Buhari’s running mateOsinbajo, Buhari (L-R) during the presidential campaignAfter the successful merger and the birth ofAPC, it was time to pick a flag bearer. At theLagos convention, President Buhari emerged as the new party’s choice in a transparently-honest process. His speech to the convention was greeted with ovation, even by those who had opposed him.In that speech, he said to the delight of all who heard, and I quote him:“I can’t give you a pocketful of dollars or naira to purchase your support. Even if I could, I would not do so. The fate of this nation is not up for sale. What I will give you, and this nation, is all of my strength, commitment, sweat and toil in the service of the people. What I can give you is my all”.This set the tone for the campaign to come.But first, there was the sticky issue of selecting a running mate. After careful study and discussion, it was agreed that we should field a religiously-balanced ticket given the sensitivities of the moment.

Bruno Mars Accused of Stealing “Uptown Funk” From Rap Trio The Sequence

Bruno Mars is being accused by The Sequence, a late 1970s rap trio, of stealing “Uptown Funk.” The all-girl group alleges its 1979 song “Funk You Up” was ripped off for Mars and Mark Ronson’s hit, which recently won the Grammy Awards’ Record of the Year.

This is not the first time “Uptown Funk” has been accused of plagiarism. In May 2015, Mars and Ronson agreed to give the writers of the Gap Band’s “Oops Upside Your Head” 17 percent of all the royalties from the song because of the striking similarities between the two tunes. And Serbian singer Snezana Miskovic, whose stage name is Viktorija, also alleged that her 1984 song “Ulice Mracne Nisu Za Devojke” (translated as “Dark Streets Are Not For Girls”) was jacked, but never filed a lawsuit, citing the time and money needed to litigate.

Gossip Cop reached out to The Sequence’s rep, Kali Bowyer, for an explanation as to why the group has yet to file a lawsuit if it’s so sure Mars and Ronson stole their song.

The Sequence was made up of the singers Cheryl Cook (Cheryl The Pearl), Gwendolyn Chisolm (Blondie), and Angie Brown Stone (Angie B.). Bowyer, who some may recall falsely accused Chris Rock of being her son’s baby daddy, has yet to get back to us. Gossip Cop is also waiting to hear from Mars’ attorney.

2. Kata Kerja dalam Bahasa Inggris (Verbs)

Kata kerja mempunyai arti sebagai kata yang menunjukkan suatu tindakan oleh subyek atau keadaan sekarang. Namun ada juga beberapa verb yang tidak melakukan suatu kejadian seperti misalnya be, exist, seem dan belong. Hal yang unik dari Kata kerja bahasa inggris adalah sifatnya yang berubah-ubah bentuk.

3. Kata Sifat dalam bahasa inggris (Adjectives)

Kata sifat mempunyai fungsi untuk memodifikasi noun atau kata benda dan pronoun atau kata ganti. Kata benda dan kata ganti ini bisa berbentuk manusia, hewan, benda maupun hal yang abstrak. Adjective berada di depan noun, sebagai contoh handsome boy ataupun di belakang noun tapi tidak disisipi lingking verb seperti something special. Beberapa jenis adjective seperti adjective phrase, compound adjective, adjective clause, dan reduced adjective clause.

4.Kata Keterangan dalam bahasa inggris (Adverbs)

Adverb di dalam bahasa inggris berfungsi untuk memberikan keterangan kepada kalimat. Penggunaan dari Adverb sendiri dibagi menjadi delapan jenis yaitu adverb of manner, adverb of time, adverb of place and direction, adverb of degree, adverb of frequency, adverb of quantity, adverb of interrogative dan relative adverb.

5. Kata Ganti dalam Bahasa Inggris (Pronouns)

Kata ganti adalah kata-kata yang penggunaanya untuk menggantikan kata benda, kata benda ini sendiri bisa berupa hewan, tempat, manusia, dan konsep ideologi. Penggunaan pronoun mempunyai tujuan agar lebih sederhana, nama-nama tidak terlalu sering disebutkan di dalam kalimat dan juga agar kalimat menjadi efektif.

BlackBerry announced Wednesday it would halt in-house production of smartphones, marking the end of an era for the once-dominant Canadian tech firm.

Ontario-based BlackBerry said it had reached a deal to outsource production of its phones to an Indonesian partner, and would instead concentrate on software and services.

Handsets with the BlackBerry name will be produced under license by PT Tiphone Mobile Indonesia Tbk, a statement by the firms said.

BlackBerry, which a decade ago was among the world’s largest smartphone makers, has seen its global market share slip to less than one percent as Apple and Android devices have dominated.

As the market shifted, BlackBerry has sought to refocus on software, including security applications, and the latest announcement takes the company out of the handset market entirely.

“We are reaching an inflection point with our strategy. Our financial foundation is strong, and our pivot to software is taking hold,” said chief executive John Chen, pointing to a doubling of software revenue in the last fiscal year.

“The company plans to end all internal hardware development and will outsource that function to partners. This allows us to reduce capital requirements and enhance return on invested capital.”

The Waterloo, Ontario-based company has made several efforts in recent years to find new customer niches as its smartphone handset sales continued to stagnate in the face of competition.

It had hoped its first Android-operating smartphone launched last year would help restore the company to its former glory.

But sales were lackluster.

Earlier this year, BlackBerry announced it was killing off its Classic smartphone with a physical keyboard — once the workhorse of the smartphone market — as part of a modernization of its lineup.

But the company has continued to bleed red, posting on Wednesday a US$372 million loss in its second quarter ending August 31.

Revenues also fell to US$334 million, from US$490 million during the same period last year. The company did not report details on its smartphone shipments.

Some analysts praised the decision to get out of smartphone sales, at a time when the worldwide smartphone market has turned relatively flat.

“The devices business has been a distraction for both BlackBerry and investors for a number of years now,” International Data Corporation analyst John Jackson told AFP.

The end is “good news,” he said, noting an uptick in BlackBerry’s stock price in morning trading.

Shares rose more than four percent to US$8.22 in New York at 11:00 am local time (1500 GMT). This price, however, remains far below a five-year high set in October 2011 of US$23.97.

Originally known as Research in Motion, the company introduced its first internet-connected devices in the early 2000s, and earned a dedicated following of “CrackBerry” addicts.

But its luster faded with the introduction of the iPhone in 2007 and the large number of low-costs Android handsets that followed.

By moving out of hardware, BlackBerry can focus on its various business services such as messaging, cybersecurity and tracking connected devices.

Jackson said the move “should help investors, BlackBerry customers, and the company itself focus squarely on the software and services business which is fiercely competitive in its own right, but also the business that BlackBerry has been in all along.”

However analyst Michael Walkley at Canaccord Genuity said the new strategy has risks as well.

“We believe the lowered focus on hardware could have an adverse impact on its installed base of loyal BlackBerry hardware customers, potentially switching to new software and security solutions on competing smartphones over time,” he said in a research note.
